A reccuring question that arises again and again in performance is, “why don’t administrators, GM’s or other stakeholders value S&C coaches.”

The answer is still the same.

It’s a field that hasn’t “turned pro” yet with respect to how it handles its own business.
The phrasing is Steven Pressfield’s but the concept is simple and universal.

Don’t devalue yourself through your actions, and expect others to value you in return.

Proudly claiming you’re not in it for the money and will “our grind everyone” sends a clear message.
And it’s not the message many think.

In their mind, they are trying to say, “we are committed and loyal,” but what others see/hear is you’re expendable and willing to be leveraged.

Still too many chasing roles & chest thumping simply out of wanting to be seen as credible.
Want to be taken more seriously by those who hold power over your position? Add more uncommon value.

Learn the business side of what you do with equal fervor to the art and science.

You need to understand politics, not just performance. True at some level in every field.
But PLEASE quit thinking some governing body will solve these problems for you.

Please quit thinking getting a high profile job will solve your problems.

Please quit thinking more chest-thumping, certifications or data is going to be the answer.
Too many in the field are being told, “just get your degree, an internship and a cert then outwork everyone and stay committed.” 15 years later they are broke or burnt out.

It’s not that simple. Rules change, so must your strategies.
