Now we are home, where midge are tame & I have a mattress not a coat to sleep on
Harris to Hame was a ferry to Skye (saw a Minke whale!!), @ScotCitylink to FW & @WCWScotland bus to our town. Some reflections about travelling post lockdown in Scotland & via public transport

1. Book in advance - travel & food! For us to eat on the Way I was Facebook messaging eateries the day before to order our meals with collection time slots. This includes take out lunches to sit in dinners.
2. Hotels have a lot of instructions with set check in/out & to the min breakfast sittings. There is no help yourself continental, but donât feel shy to ask the server for all the continental you would normally eat and how you like it (like 1/2 & 1/2 orange & apple juice)
3. You canât hitch hike so plan ahead with your transport. We got caught out on N Uist as we didnât check the council website for bus updates, there was a new timetable but we only had the old one.
4. Not all @CalMacFerries are serving food. If this is where you plan to get a meal, check their website to see what is on your sailing.
5. When you purchase multiple @ScotCitylink bus tickets you get a separate email for EACH ticket. If printing your tickets print all the emails.
6. We found that people are less talkative to strangers atm, but not less friendly. Some places were more welcoming than others. In the @OuterHebs we found people on N. Uist and Berneray the most chatty and friendly, everyone chatted to us.
7. Camping - there is a lot of concern about wild camping atm. Camp away from homes, arrive late & leave early. Always take everything with you. We had a couple people offer us their gardens to camp in! One group even cooked us dinner!
8. Facilities - council websites have maps of open public loos & showers. We found all public loo blocks were open & free except at Kyle of Lochlash where you had to pay. We planned our route to have a loo every day. There were also 3 showers on route. Leave no trace!
9. Things take longer, plan ahead for it and be patient and polite. Always social distance, have your mask handy and your own anti bac gel. No one takes cash so have contactless.
10. You will be outdoors more, gone are the days whiling away time waiting for a bus in a cafe reading a book. Prepare for being outdoors in the weather.
