Here at the shiny thing for an action denouncing CPD in CPS, ICE and universities that work with ICE. Organized by @ChiFreeSchool @GKMC18 and others.
Heading west through the park towards Michigan Ave.
A few hundred people have shut down the corner of Michigan and Washington.

Heading north on Michigan
A few police tried to break through the back of the protest, physically crashing into protesters.

A sergeant eventually pulled them all back.
They then raced to the front of the protest via southbound lane of Michigan.
Nearing the raised bridge on Michigan
Scene at Michigan/Wacker.

CPD has blocked the protest from moving east on Wacker.

Chants of “Let Us Through!”
The end of a brief scuffle as CPD tried to breakthrough a line of bikes.

CPD is now regrouping away from the protesters.

“You’re not getting any bikes today!” someone yells.
I’ve seen a handful of what I’m guessing are IG influencers taking pictures with the protests or cops in the background. That hustle never takes a break.

CPD just forced their way around a corner where multiple people were being treated by medics.
CPD surrounded the protest on three sides. Heading west on Randolph now.
This high-ranking CPD officer pointed someone out in the crowd and made a beeline for her. It sparked off shoving and pepper spray.
I didn’t see what caused it but everyone—protesters, followed by CPD went sprinting up LaSalle
I’ve been separated from the larger group. I’ve spoken with youth protesters who saw at least 3 friends be detained by CPD.

Another man says he’s not sure what set things off but as soon as he realized ppl were running he was hit on the head by an officer.
Have also been told by the leader of a youth organization that an undocumented minor was detained.

I watched members of the NLG be chased by CPD.
A young woman was detained and screaming near Clark and Quincy.

An officer told me he arrived on scene after she was handcuffed and doesn’t know why she was detained, but she had a CPD body worn camera in her position when they searched her.
Chicago Fire were tending to her when I arrived. She said she has asthma and was taken to the hospital by CPD.

As I was speaking with an officer about the incident a plainclothes officer shut down our convo.
Pile of bikes at Marble/LaSalle

An officer tells some people standing near them to leave, “its over with,” he says.
A woman came to grab a bike and was told to leave. A high ranking officer says they were confiscated bc they were abandoned property.
After regrouping at Clark/Adams a few hundred bike officers head out. A high ranking officer said they are going to Northwestern Hospital.
I’m fine.

But it’s jarring to witness what I just witnessed and then bike home through a River North packed with drunk 20 somethings oblivious to not just tonight but also the damn pandemic.
