🧵 I think people are really only compassionate about what they know & have experienced. If you see me RT a topic on repeat you might think I’m bored, weird or dim, but there’s a reason I care about certain issues & want to share as much as I can.

For example:
I had a coworker who suffered severe trauma + PTSD after serving in Iraq/Afghanistan & was in a situation where the police were called & shots were fired upon this honored veteran. Luckily they survived. The police did their best but made it worse.
It was later assessed as a mental health crisis. The local police department started treating veterans in similar situations w/ a broader range of care. When I tweet about police, I don’t want zero police officers, I hear more money going toward training & others means of safety.
I’m a minority female who has been in mild, but impactful, situations where people were disrespectful, rude or ignorant to their own racism & bias w/ unexplained hostility towards me & only me. Most of my family is Caucasian & I feel strongly that everyone matters, but today BLM.
My favorite uncle (my dear friend & confidant growing up) worked his whole career for the #USPS. He showed me on a regular basis how his simple-looking job made a huge difference to so many regular people on a daily basis. So I am adamant that the #USPSisEssential!
My dad is a minority & grew up during the Civil Rights movement & then married a white woman. Even if I ignored all the racism of today, the pain & suffering that my parents endured due to their interracial marriage is enough to make me loudly fight for racial equality.
Plus I’m a female, so I’ve been harassed & put down just b/c of that. Which means gender bias tweets.

I’m a mom to lots of brown kiddos, so I have to fight for them.

I have LGBTQ family that I want to support & protect plus some struggle with mental health, so I’m an ally.
I’ve spent my entire career in marketing communications. I’m still deeply interested in the day-to-day happenings of my profession. I tweet a lot about companies that impact #PR & like to look critically at organizations—that’s why there’s a constant stream of business tweets.
So that’s me in a nutshell. It might seem random or intense, but these are things that I really care about. I can no longer sit quietly and let the world go by. I have to do my best to make progress and to support those that need help. So I’m glad you’re here with me!
