Thread: 1/ I’m deeply disappointed to learn of Mr. Pack’s latest efforts to sideline career federal officials, myself included, who have consistently done everything in our power to hold him and his team accountable to its statutory obligations and mission. https://twitter.com/npr/status/1294699649639514114
/ His decision to place us on administrative leave is based on specious and misleading grounds and clearly meant to muzzle and harm those of us who trying to protect the integrity of the Agency’s operations. https://twitter.com/shawnpowers/status/1294740815647068160
/ In my case, the proposed allegations are demonstrably false, entirely unrelated to my portfolio, and/or based on reports that predate my time at USAGM.
/ Rather than provide leadership and vision for an Agency at the heart of a global competition for ideas and values, Mr. Pack has instead focused almost exclusively on pursuing political and personal vendettas.
/ I remain profoundly committed to USAGM’s efforts to inform, engage, and connect people around the world in support of freedom and democracy and will not waver in defending this crucial mission.
/ Now more than ever, the world needs American leadership to promote and protect free and independent media. Punishing non-partisan civil servants for upholding these values is shameful and unconscionable.
/ American taxpayers deserve better, as do citizens around the world who depend on USAGM’s journalists for unbiased coverage amidst a growing tidal wave of censorship and violence against journalists. @jimrutenberg @davidfolkenflik @dlippman @brianstelter @pranshuverma_
