When I started actively reading diverse voices, it took me a while to get into it and it took me a while to figure out why.

Is different and different is uncomfortable. We write from our experience, through our personal lens, and we are most comfortable with similar lenses but good god, y'all, if you never push past that you are shooting yourself in the foot and dooming yourself (and others bc... 2/
Money talks, and everybody buying books from white authors makes sure that won't change any time soon) to a lifetime of white-washed reading filled with a lot of mediocre writing because we (collective) are more comfy with that than we are actively seeking stories from 3/
Bipoc authors that could be exceptional. Same with queer authors, really.
If you never step outside your comfort zone, you won't ever get to see all the stories humans have to offer.
Give yourself some leeway to get adjusted to the lens & keep reading. It's worth it.
