The @USPS sent letters warning states about potential issues w/ absentee ballot deadlines. Some are using this to provoke fear of mail vote “sabotage.”

Let’s take a breath. Read the letter. Here’s the one PA got.
TLDR: some states have unrealistic deadlines for requesting absentee ballots. (spoiler, they probably always were).

PA lets voters request mail ballots up to 1 week before Election Day. That’s Oct. 27–the same day @USPS says voters should be *returning* their ballots by mail.
This sets voters up to fail. One week isn’t enough time to process a request, mail a ballot, and return it by mail.

What can we do? Push back request deadlines so ballots have time for a round trip in the mail.

Tell voters: After Oct. 27, drop your ballot off or vote in person.
Instead, PA is now using this letter to justify asking a judge to impose new rules to potentially allow votes cast after Election Day to be counted.

The plan would count any ballot received within 3 days of Election Day, unless it is clearly postmarked after Election Day.
The problem: lots of ballots aren’t being postmarked at all. Since PA would presume any vote without a postmark is valid, any ballots voted after Election Day will be counted as long as they arrive in three days.

What’s the @usps estimate for First Class Mail delivery? 2-5 days.
This reckless plan is wide open to abuse. Mailing a ballot after Election Day is the no different than trying to vote after Election Day. Everyone knows you can’t do that. It’s wrong, and everyone understands why.

Elections should end on Election Night.
