the wc community is spreading the hashtag #WarriorCatsAbleism today. ive made my feelings on this subject very clear before, but i want to reitirate that this series has a problem when it comes to disabled characters. time and again, these characters are killed or-
forced to be medicine cats instead of warriors, bc having a disability apprently makes cats incapable of fighting and hunting, which simply isnt true. while some characters avoid falling into this trap, most do, and i think its an issue we need to address w harpercollins. -
snowkit. jayfeather. cinderpelt. briarlight. these are the most infamous examples. i hope that, going forward, harpercollins and the warriors team will address the issues w these portrayals of disabilities, especially bc this is a kids' series. reading a dangerous path, i was -
horrified to see fireheart, the main protagonist, get away w saying that snowkit "cant learn" bc of his deafness. imagine being a deaf child and reading that? imagine the impact these books have on children, especially disabled ones. if we want harpercollins to address this, we -
need to spread awareness of this. they have already made progress by removing a particularly ableist line abt briarlight from a recent book. this shows that they are capable of listening to criticism and responding accordingly. this community is very outspoken, and together, we -
can use our voices to call for better representation of disabled characters in warrior cats.
