I wanna be real about what's happening in Iowa right now - straight apocalyptic conditions for much of the state - the entire state just went dark - because this derecho essentially *destroyed* it.

Half this area was underwater for weeks last year. It destroyed an entire growing season and sent families who had farmed for generations into bankruptcy.
Now almost 50% of the soybean crop for this year has been completely destroyed

Hundreds of thousands are without power, internet, even basic cell service - a full week later.
Whole towns are cut off from supplies - if your car wasn't destroyed by a tree, then you might get gasoline after waiting multiple hours

Disasters of this nature that happen in quick succession are eventually going to lead to what we've all talked about re: climate disaster. These events will happen so frequently from within the feedback loop that the state will be completely unable to keep up

I'm trying to find mutual aid groups that might be working in Iowa and will post them when I find them. If anyone else gets a line on food funds, mutual aid supply groups, emergency groups working in the area, lmk so I can boost it
But seriously - we are in dire straights, comrades. Climate disasters are becoming more frequent, looming eviction apocalypse on the horizon, a second wave of illness that will be likely the worst combo COVID/Flu season we've ever seen
