Now that “hug cartoon” is dead, there are so many “just t0rrent, it’s better” comments that it’s annoying. Let’s break it down: “hey, t0rrenting is a better way to bootleg anime.” You’re still bootlegging stuff without paying for it, so you’re just skirting around it.

Now, Winston Churchill famously said that “history is written by the victors,” and that’s equally as true as “the internet is written by Americans.” So if you’re in North America, you really don’t have any excuse if it’s a modern show you steal.
@Real_Kilometers will tell you that @crunchyroll__ has a lot of stuff available and free, as does @HIDIVEofficial and @retrocrush_tv as well as Netflix.
However, people want to argue their pirate stances simply through there being exceptions, and make that their bad argument.

Here’s the thing. If you live in North America, you basically get everything. If you live in Europe, you get 90% of what’s in NA. People will agree that because x show isn’t in MY country it’s okay. Well, maybe it is for that show if there’s no other option. Options? Oh yeah...
Blu-ray and DVDs of shows are still available, so if you can’t stream it, quite often it’s on physical media, in better quality, so it’s out there legally. You just have to try.
However, sometimes your country doesn’t get everything. @Kitsunelaine will tell you that in her great thread on this as well.
So, really, if you live in NA or EU, you don’t really have an excuse if it’s available by some legal means.

Should everything be free? It would be convenient, but it comes at a cost- the people who made it don’t get compensation for their hard work. Imagine working your ass off on something and not getting paid. In any cases that’s illegal- the same as this piracy of media.
I’ve seen people say that theft of media is not a huge deal. While it’s certainly a “lesser” crime than theft of weapons, drugs and money, it’s still a crime at the end of the day. Ranking crimes is just trying to make it look like you aren’t THAT bad because you don’t do x thing
