Today I would talk about an Indian satellite channel which was very famous in the mid 90s. I would talk about Home TV. A thread đŸ§¶ (1/n)
Home TV started in the mid 90s. Suddenly it became very popular and started giving competition to established channels like Zee and Sony. It had many good comedy shows like Zabaan Sambhalke (Season 2), Amma & Family (Zohra Sehgal as Amma and was directed by Sadia Dehlvi) (2/n)
It also had a game show hosted by @roshanabbas where he used to play games in public places and had participants from crowd. Can't recall the name of the show now. It also had many Chinese King Fu series dubbed in Hindi which became very popular (3/n)
So far so good. Then they did a competition. They had a family an animated family as their icon. The family had father, mother, kids and even a dog. Viewers were given clues and were supposed to guess the name of each family member of that animated family (4/n)
Don't remember all names but the daughter's name was Tara and son's name was Antariksh. Everyone had celestial names. Viewers were supposed to guess names on clues as well as write why they like Home TV. (5/n)
The first prize was a residential apartment in Kalyan! This was probably the highest valued prize money on any Indian channel. Apartment prices would not have been that high in Kalyan in those days but must have been high enough. Other prizes were TV etc. (6/n)
Even my family participated. Many Indian families spammed the post offices with postcards. Postcards costed just 15 ps those so postal department were fed up by so much load due to TV channels and their competition that they started a special competition post card for Rs. 2 (7/n)
Only these post cards could be used for competition on TV etc.

Now after a few days Home TV announced the answers and then they did a program where they met with all the winners. They went to their homes and did an interview with them. Off course I didn't win (8/n)
We waited to know who won the grand prize of that apartment. Finally it was shown. Winner was none other than famous TV actor Mahesh Thakur @aryanaraish. Pretty believable that in a competition on a TV channel where whole country participated winner was a TV actor 😂😂😂 (9/n)
Would really love to know if Mahesh Thakur @aryanaraish can please throw more light on it. Bcos it clearly looked like fixed to everyone. Surprising was how they could be so blatant! Other than this incident it was a decent channel and had good content. End (10/10)
