The guidance from Ofqual on validity of mock exams makes clear that, for the overwhelming majority of students, the lowest grade they can now expect to receive is their CAG. This is a reversal to CAGs whilst trying to save face politically at the cost of millions in appeal fees.
Our students have been through enough- the algorithm was the right approach but it has failed in it’s execution. That was compounded by the nonsensical decision to use mock results as an alternative. There could have been other solutions a few weeks ago but now there are none.
It’s time to end this madness and revert to centre assessed grades for all students nationally. They may not be perfect but they’re better than this horror show and at least you save millions on appeal costs (not to mention relieving the massive administrative burden on schools
of processing appeals for every GCSE and A Level student whilst they prepare for reopening in the Autumn. @GavinWilliamson @educationgovuk @ofqual It is time for the games to stop
