A thread on the rebuild of Futbol Club Barcelona. What went Wrong?
FC Barcelona have went from a team that conquered Europe with the likes of Lionel Messi, Xavi Hernandez, Andres Iniesta, Luis Suarez, and Neymar Jr to a team that has now just ended their season going trophy less for the first time since the 2007/2008 season. 1/20
To make matters worse, they have just suffered one of their worst and most humiliating defeats in their entire history, an 8-2 trashing as the hands of an in form Bayern Munich. This also coming after 2 straight years of blowing 3 goal leads in the ucl to Liverpool and Roma 2/20
All of these humiliations year after year are tarnishing the reputation of the club and of one of the all time greats Lionel Messi. With the sacking of Quique Setien, it looks like things are finally starting to change, however is it too little too late? 3/20
Messi has easily been the biggest blessing in FC Barcelona's history, however have they taken him for granted? The stats speak it all

Barca have netted 86 times in the 2019/20 La Liga campaign with Messi scoring 25 of them and assisting 21 of them. In total Messi has contributed 46 goals out of Barca's 86 (53.5%). In other words, over half of Barcelona's goals have came from 1 man alone. 5/20
These are just 2 of the many more stats that clearly show Barca rely on Messi to constantly bail them out time and time again. Messi can win you games single handedly, however even the best have bad games at times. Everytime Messi has a bad game, the entire team crumbles. 6/20

Against Bayern and Liverpool Barca changed their tactics to always counter the opposition which is very uncharacteristic of them as the old Barcelona would always put out their best line up and use the same tactics and just play to the best of their abilities. 7/20

Poor Tactics
Constantly changing your tactics and line up against teams can ruin a teams shape and it clearly has in this case for Barca as they looked lost against Bayern. Its no longer break down the opposition, it is now sit back and let the opposition break you down 8/20

An Aging Squad
The average age of Barcas starting 11 against Bayern was 29 years and 329 days. The oldest squad in ucl history for Barcelona. Barca were the better team in the first 10 minutes, then age came into play and the entire team was gassed 9/20

Lack Of Passion
On top of having an aging squad, Barcelona just don't play for the badge anymore. They lack the passion they once had and are a shadow of their former selves. Young players like Fati, Puig, Etc that show passion aren't being given chances to prove themselves 10/20

Financial Problems
Barcelona are in huge debt of 800+ million euros. It doesn't help that they just spent around 400 million euros on 3 players that have barely made an impact for the club since they signed. It also doesn't help that COVID hit Barca the hardest of any club 11/20

Huge Wages
Barcelona's Budget is 1 billion euros, 63% of it is eaten up by player wages. Barcelona need to offload many players in order to complete a full rebuild, however many teams can't match the wages these players demand so it results in no one signing these players. 12/20

Horrible Board
Josep Maria Bartomeu has been one of the biggest reasons the mighty Barcelona has fallen. He has torn this club apart year by year since he has been appointed. They need to call early elections and replace him as soon as possible or no changes will be made 13/20

New Management
Sí al futur project (Yes to the future) is a project that has been in the works by presidential candidate Victor Font who's goal is to seek a future for Barcelona post Messi. The projects goal is to change the entire model of the Club in its current state 14/20

In order for Barca to be back at the top they need to trust in Font and be patient as change will not happen overnight. Appointing Font and eventually Xavi will be a huge step in the right direction for change. It will be hard, but it will be worth it if all goes well. 15/20
Sell
It will be hard for Barcelona to sell some players, however Barcelona need to get rid of many players in order to complete a rebuild. Many players over the age of 30 need to be sold as they are a shadow of their former selves. A list of players who should be sold:

Buy or Promote
Barcelona need to strengthen the squad with signings of new fresh players with young blood. A world class cb like Upamecano is needed. 2 Barca level fullbacks are needed. On top of all this they need to make careful signings that would fit the team. 18/20

A new generation
As said by club legend Gerard Pique, Barca have hit rock bottom. It's time for the club to change as a whole. It is time heavyweights to put the club before them and let the new generation take over. Otherwise Barcelona will forever be stuck in the past 19/20

A New Coach
Valverde sacked. Setien sacked. It is time Barcelona stop bringing in mid table coaches and look for a coach that would perfectly fit their style and have experience coaching a big team, especially like Barcelona. There are many candidates to take over. 20/20
