Early, in-person voting is a great way to fight back against Donald Trump's strategy to corrupt the Post Office and steal the election. Let's start a thread re early, in-person voting rules. I'll start with New York (next tweet). Please add the rules in your state! 1/
NEW YORK STATE: Early in-person voting in NY starts on Saturday, October 24, 2020, and runs to Sunday, November 1, 2020. See below for details, including how to find your polling place! 2/ https://www.ny.gov/early-voting-new-york
PENNSYLVANIA: My wife is from the great state of PA, so I'm sad to report that PA has no early voting period (WTF, PA). So, what to do? If at all possible, go to the polls on Election Day. But ... 3/
... If you live in PA and will be unable to vote in person on Election Day, you can request an absentee ballot by mail or by visiting your local election office. But given Trump's efforts to screw with the Post Office ... 4/
... it may be safer to get the ballot in person at the election office, and also drop the completed ballot off at ballot dropboxes that the state has set up. The location of dropboxes has not yet been finalized, but you can check the link below. 5/ http://padems.com/dropoff/
I should mention that Trump is suing the state of PA over the ballot dropboxes, so we'll see how that goes. But FFS, Pennsylvanians, why don't you have early in-person voting? 6/
I'll add to this thread but I hope you'll jump in with early, in-person voting info for your state. 7/
TEXAS: If you live in TX -- one of my favorite states-that-could-be-nations, you can vote early from Oct. 13 to Oct. 30. That is plenty of time to stick it to Donald Trump and his GOP enablers. 8/ https://twitter.com/markyzaguirre/status/1294681483723132930
FLORIDA: My awesome sister-in-law lives in FL. As does the roseate spoonbill. And FL has early voting from Saturday, October 24, 2020 to Saturday, October 31, 2020. See below for details. 9/ https://dos.myflorida.com/elections/for-voters/voting/early-voting/
It's funny that Donald and Melania will be voting by mail in FL. Because vote-by-mail is bad only when people who don't support him do it. He's such an unredeemable POS. /10
My friend Bill weighs in on Minnesota, which has given us Bob Dylan, Prince, and The Replacements. Props to MN for that! 11/ https://twitter.com/BillMcGev/status/1294683051113537537
And Bill sends along a helpful tip ... 12/ https://twitter.com/BillMcGev/status/1294683319284760576
Dan weighs in with early voting info for Orange County, NC -- that's where UNC-Chapel Hill is (Go Tarheels!). 13/ https://twitter.com/MargoliesDan/status/1294684732702240769
Digression: UVA triumphalism is a hell of a drug. 14/ https://twitter.com/pbstephan3/status/1294687246206013442
VIRGINIA: Since we're on the subject of UVA triumphalism, let's talk about early voting in the Old Dominion (where I lived while on the faculty at the great @UVALaw ). VA allows absentee in-person voting *for any reason.* So ... 15/
... VA voters can vote early in-person from Saturday, September 19, 2020 to Saturday, October 31, 2020. Sept. 19 is just over a month away--so get ready to vote, VA peeps! Details below. 16/ https://www.elections.virginia.gov/casting-a-ballot/absentee-voting/
CALIFORNIA: The estimable Naomi Jane Gray reports that CA early voting rules are county-by-county, and gives directions. 17/ https://twitter.com/ShadesofGrayLaw/status/1294723036210319360
I lived in the Golden State, in both SoCal and NorCal, and loved it. And I ask my CA peeps to call their county election offices (numbers listed in Naomi's tweet, above) and get details. 18/
Also, CA friends, please ask the CA legislature to get its act together and pass state-wide early in-person voting rules! This county-by-county stuff is baloney. 19/
CALIFORNIA II: Naomi clarifies a bit. See below. And thanks, NJG! 20/ https://twitter.com/ShadesofGrayLaw/status/1294724997886275584
I want to detail early voting rules in swing states first. We have FL, PA, MN and TX in the thread already. VA too: but VA looks pretty bright blue to me. Can anyone help out by adding AZ, OH, WI, MI, GA, NC (statewide), and IA? Please? 21/
INDIANA: My friend and co-author Mark reports on IN, which, like VA, has a mechanism called "absentee in-person" voting. 22/ https://twitter.com/markpmckenna/status/1294732882997583872
INDIANA II: For more info on early in-person voting in IN, see below. 23/ https://www.in.gov/sos/elections/2402.htm
