Amari Cooper. Just saying his name probably invokes all kinds of emotion from fantasy players. You either love him or you hate him. And for all his inconsistency the ones who love him defend him to the hilt. If you follow me you know that I'm far from an Amari fanboy. My...
Colleague @2on1FFB calls him the #FantasyLocust 🦗 and more agreeable, I could not be. But I decided to take a closer look at Cooper to see if there is something I'm missing and what I stumbled upon is something we might all be missing.
Despite the number one offense (in terms of yards) the Dallas Cowboys fired Jason Garrett this offseason. He's now in New York. We'll get to that later, but I wanted to touch on what he's done in Big D the last two years. Specifically with Cooper, Gallup and Zeke. Since these
Are the guys we're mostly drafting. Okay, get to it already.
Danny Amendola, Irv Smith, Josh Hill, Russell Gage, Alex Erickson, Zach freaking Pascal... What do these JAGs 🐆 have in common? They all received more red zone targets than Amari Cooper last year. Cooper earned just 9 red zone targets all year. That's ridiculous for a teams No.1
And it wasn't just Cooper. Gallup earned just 8... Eight! Jason Witten got more RZ looks in Garrett's offense... Completely ridiculous considering what they're paying Cooper. So how are the Cowboys converting these drives? On the back of Zeke Elliott. In 2019 the cowboys gave..
Zeke a WHOPPING FIFTY-NINE RZ carries. He scored 11 RZ TDs... He earned 78% of his teams rushes in the RZ. 😱 On average the last two years he has earned 49 carries scored 8 TDs and garnered 70% of his teams rushes. When the boys get close, they turn to Zeke.
Now I'm not sure if that's a lack of confidence in their Signal caller, their WRs or a need to justify the 💰 they're paying Elliott but the numbers can't be ignored. Back to Cooper. He scored 8 touchdowns last year despite the paltry 9 RZ targets. Imagine for a moment that
He was Targeted like Tyler Lockett (23) or even Allen Robinson (20) how many more times could he score? And it wasn't just Cooper. Imagine a shift in philosophy.

Enter Mike McCarthy
In 2018 under McCarthy, Davante Adams received 23 RZ targets. In 2017 he got 22, the corpse of Jordy Nelson... 11. In 2016, Nelson earned TWENTY-NINE targets. Adams, an up and commer, 20! McCarthy clearly likes to pepper 🌶️ his WRs in close. Particularly his No.1 WR
This is significant not just for Cooper and Gallup but for Zeke and another Fantasy relevant player we haven't talked about yet.
That's right. Who is the new OC in The Big 🍎? Jason Garrett.

Last year under Pat Shurmur Barkley received just 59% of his teams rushes inside the RZ... He scored just three times from in close. Everything else was something he broke off for 20+ yards. Now imagine, if you will
A world 🌍 where Barkley gets 59 RZ carries... Or more importantly receives 78% of his teams production from in close...
Is it possible we're UNDERVALUING Barkley, Cooper and Gallup? (I know we're undervaluing Gallup his 7th Rd ADP is criminal) definitely something to think about when evaluating these players. I don't think the average fantasy player takes into account all the moving parts ⚙️
When these coordinators and coaches change scenery.

The Cowboys and Giants have new sheriff's in town. And these players deserve to be evaluated under a larger microscope.
