I highly doubt that when he leaves office that Dems fill that seat for many many years.

Red State Democrats cannot get elected the way Blue State Dems do.
Especially in statewide races.

Now, why is he the best on this? West Virgina is a state where jobs, particularly state or federal or union jobs that are well paid, stable and offer pensions are the arguable top priority, particularly for electeds and especially Dems.
Dems in red states win by pushing for workers and families; they can’t fight in the social justice trenches the way California or New York can because ultimately they’ll lose support on their right and left.
It sucks, but it’s the electorate sucking.
Do I think Manchin is kind of a dick? Yeah. Do I like all your blue state dems? Nah. But we hold a seat in WV based on Joe Manchins record and name ID with West Viriginians. Not because of Democrats.

And his being good on protecting jobs is not new; it’s literally his political career. Some of this shit is just common sense.
Would be super nice if you all had to live under a couple of years with @GovBillLee @LamarAlexander and @MarshaBlackburn to see what gross incompetence and the literal disregard for your life and rights is like.
And I’m am privileged white girl—-abortion rights and healthcare access (refusal to expand Medicaid and sitting on state budget surpluses and poor COVID responses) are the biggest threats I’ve faced.
When you start to find yourself at vulnerable intersections here in red states, such as being a black woman with a disability for instance, you have your civil and human rights threatened everyday.
So I’d be thrilled with a @JoeManchinWV in TN. Because however easy it is to call him “awful” he’s a goddamn liberal warrior next to Blackburn and Alexander who are absolute human rights and civil rights and basic common sense nightmares
