One of our goals at Seventh Row is to be a resource for all things Canadian cinema 🇨🇦 We've been told we've gotten readers/listeners in Canada and out excited about Canadian film, which couldn't make us happier.

Here's some info on our commitment to covering Canadian cinema...
Last year at #TIFF we ran 10 features on Canadian films(s).

Our small team interviewed 6 Canadian filmmakers at the festival itself, and covered several more Canadian films from the festival later, upon their release.
We're one of the only publications whose focus at TIFF is on Canadian cinema.

We don't cover *every* Canadian film, only the ones we find interesting (there are lots), and we don't *just* cover Canadian film, but we're passionate about uncovering the gems the country produces.
The big project that all our coverage of great Canadian cinema builds up to is our biennial ebook series: THE CANADIAN CINEMA YEARBOOK ( http://canadiancinemabook.com ).

Last summer, the first edition chronicled the best new voices (and seasoned masters) in contemporary Canadian film.
The project came about when we were delighted to discover that so many of our favourite films of #TIFF18 were Canadian: from GIANT LITTLE ONES and FIRECRACKERS to EDGE OF THE KNIFE and THE GREAT DARKENED DAYS. Not many people were talking about them, but they were our standouts.
Then there was Patricia Rozema's MOUTHPIECE, our favourite film of the festival by a long shot. MOUTHPIECE actually ended up being our favourite film of last year and our third favourite of the decade.
MOUTHPIECE is the kind of film that makes us passionate about advocating for Canadian cinema. It's innovative, wholly original, unabashedly Canadian, and yet it flew under the radar and didn't see much of a release beyond North America. We're working to change that (stay tuned).
(P.S. If you're in Canada you can watch MOUTHPIECE for free on CBC Gem and you *must*. And then you must report back to us.)
Our CANADIAN CINEMA YEARBOOK is full of gems like these. It will introduce you to a national cinema that is often buried. It includes sections on coming-of-age, LGBTQ+ films, Indigenous cinema, innovations with form, emerging artists, documentaries, &more. http://canadiancinemabook.com
Canadian cinema fans might also be interested in our #LockdownFilmSchool livestream series. While the series has welcomed a range of different guests, around half have been Canadian filmmakers, including Mina Shum, Philippe Falardeau, & Anne Émond. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLnGv4WUgqWMir0Bk0KJxLf0Rn4J9uv88x
And good news! The final few sessions before the series closes out will be completely Canadian.

Tomorrow we welcome Toronto filmmakers Sofia Bohdanowicz (MS SLAVIC 7) and Kazik Radwanski (ANNE AT 13,000FT).
