Just a reminder that because at ONE point-a bank statement snapshot, I had more than $2000 in my bank account ($2300, while waiting for my rent check to come out) so I now have to pay $217 more a month for Medicaid, possibly for the entire year. The Medicaid cap keeps people poor
I am not saying I am poor but the system does not allow people to build any sort of meaningful wealth. Without expensive trusts and loopholes, someone who relies on Medicaid could never save to buy a home. Hell they can’t even save just in case their car breaks down.
And before anyone comes in here to tell me about the “special” accounts, let’s get a couple things straight. 1. Not available in every state. 2. Why the hell should people have to have ANOTHER bank account? They most likely have a perfectly good one.
3. IF YOU DIE THAT MONEY GOES BACK TO THE GOVERNMENT, NOT YOUR FAMILY.

This assets cap hasn’t changed in at least 30 years. And considering we’re not going to have mail here soon, not feeling very confident that change is on the horizon.
