[THREAD] Sick of the #NUFC takeover crap, so I thought I’d have a little fun with the R skills I’ve learned from @AttackingCB recent course, mixed with a bit of Photoshop to have a look at how some of the strikers we’ve been linked with stack up against Gayle & Joelinton. 1/
Let’s look at what Gayle & Joelinton offered the team last season. Below is a comparison of their striking stats from last season. #NUFC 2/
Throughout the season, 𝗝𝗼𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗻’s lack of goalscoring instinct was clear & saw him record just 1.74 shots & 0.16xG per90. However, with 41.1 touches, 5 ariel duel wins per90 & an overall 79% pass completion, he has a lot to offer in a more deep-lying position #NUFC 3/
Once fit, 𝗚𝗮𝘆𝗹𝗲’s natural goalscoring instincts help the team instantly. Despite some misses, he recorded 2.45 shots & 0.57xG per90 & help the team by offering a genuine threat in behind defences opening up space for #NUFC’s midfielders to play 4/
In an ideal world, we’d find a striker that offers a mix of the pairs skillset, able to offer Gayles goal threat & Joelintons defensive work & link-up play. So over the next few tweets I’m going to look at how some of the strikers #NUFC have been linked with stack up 5/
First up is 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘂𝗺 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝘀𝗼𝗻, who brings significant EPL experience, but didn’t have his best season in a poor Bournemouth team. He offers a decent mix of the two & works his nuts off (see pressures) if #NUFC can get him for the right price it feels like an okay fit 6/
Next is Wilson’s teammate 𝗝𝗼𝘀𝗵 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴, who spent most of last season playing on the wing at Bournemouth which is reflected in his radar. Not sure he’s the answer to our striking woes, but he offers quality across the front line if #NUFC decide to sign him 7/
On loan from Roma at RB Leipzig, 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗸 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗸 has managed to grab 10 goals from just 6xG worth of chances in 15 starts for the CL semi-finalists. He looks impressive, but like Gayle, it’s a small sample size so more due diligence is needed. #NUFC 8/
Lastly, (for now at least) we have 𝗪𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗪𝗲𝗴𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘀𝘁 who has had a very impressive season with Wolfsburg grabbing 16 goals. On paper, he looks like the best option, offering work-rate, shot volume & an eye for goal. #NUFC 9/
As we’ve seen with 𝗝𝗼𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗻, making the leap from the Bundesliga isn’t always straightforward & 𝗪𝗲𝗴𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘀𝘁 or 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗸 would need to learn to adapt in a way that 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝘀𝗼𝗻 & 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴 do not. #NUFC 10/
Whoever ends up at #NUFC, it’s imperative we keep Gayle (or replace him if he leaves). For me, he looks like a perfect backup option - ready to grab a goal from the bench. Hopefully, Bruce and co. agree ENDS/
If anyone has a request for a player in one of the top divisions, let me know and I'll do them & add it to the bottom of this thread at some point in the week. Ta.
