Thread on weak Dems: 1) If you follow me, you know that I am the type of person who holds myself accountable as well as those around me. I want to talk about why the Dems are failing. No, I’m not absolving Trump & Republicans for this chaos. I am saying that we must also look at

2) Dems responsibilities in all of this. This is all boiling up in my mind bc I see Trump & Republicans blatantly, openly stealing this election. I see them preventing Americans from their Constitutional right to vote. It is abhorrent. It is criminal. Where are the Dems?

3) They (Pelosi & Schumer) have issued a statement condemning the Republicans & are on vacation. Well what do I expect from them you ask. I expect a lot. We didn’t just get into this jam bc of the actions of Republicans. Dems helped create DHS. Dems voted right along w/Republican

4) laws like the Patriot Act. Dems didn’t fight when he stole the 1st election. They didn’t fight all these years w/the redistricting. They literally did not fight in many districts bc they claimed it was too hard. The ceded then fight on immigration. The were lukewarm on

5) a women’s right to choose. They did not fight on all these terrorism wars & the ridiculous, costly wars on drugs. Congressional Dems gave up much of their power, just as Congressional Republicans did, when they refused to say no to all these endless wars. They gave away

6) much of their power to the presidency. Afraid to seem light on terrorism, soft on crime, they did not perform their oversight duties and simply let the executive have their way with wars and law enforcement. They made themselves weak, lost power bc they were too afraid to

7) speak up. To conduct oversight. To hold the executive accountable. And what did they get in return? Some got Republicans to leave their districts alone so that they could forever be re-elected. The Dems gave the power to do more than they let on. The leadership is full of it

8) when they say they cannot do anything bc they only hold the House. Here’s an example: they could be speaking with the Postmaster General right this minute. Instead, the House Oversight Cmte has chosen to wait until next month after their vacation.

9) If he refused to come in now, they could have subpoenaed him. THAT IS CALLED OVERSIGHT! They could have held Trump & Republicans more accountable this entire time. Dems are still playing the strategy of not rocking the boat too hard. What this looks like is holding many

10) hearings on @ICEgov & @CBP on child separation & kids dying in custody....but not one person losing their job or being charged. It is holding impeachment hearings do narrow that there is little chance of succeeding. It is tweeting about his dismayed, disgusted or disappointed

11) they are in Republicans & Trump. But you know who has been fighting? You. Me. We. We have been carrying the Dem establishment on our backs for decades. We are the ones who organized & marched in the Women’s March in response to this misogynist being elected. We are the ones

12) who protested at the Capital for ACA. We are the ones who immediately took to the streets and said NO to the Muslim Ban. We’ve protested for DACA, against family separation, police brutality and all the rest. And now it seems we will have to protest for our right to vote.

13) Don’t get me wrong. I love a great protest. We should be this involved in our democracy. But I also expect our leaders to fight just as hard. The fact is that most are not. The establishment is still playing the same game. They are playing it safe. They are looking to us,

14) the citizens to protest, to vote. We will just as we always do. We will protest even though they beat us, arrest us, tear gas us, shoot rubber billets into our eyes and even kill some of us. We will vote even though they are closing our polling places, taking our mail

15) boxes, using disinformation and will likely change the tallies. We will do it. We will carry the establishments water once again. And when we are done, we will hold all accountable: Trump, Republicans and even weak Dems.
