When I first met @Sambarjohn in 2018 in the Devala Valley he nonchalantly told me how a group of net-casting spiders lived outside his bedroom window. Bluffing! was my first reaction.I had only seen one In Valparai after many yrs of searching for a very elusive spider+
My only encounter was accidentally dislodging an individual while in a very disturbed forest fragment in Valparai. I soon found out that there was a thriving population in the forests of Gudalur! The next few days we found, marvelled & saw their unique hunting strategy+
The amazing Deinopis, net-casting spiders live up to their name. Working in near-pitch darkness their night vision is one of the most advanced in the animal kingdom. With their webs that resemble fishing nets, they swoop&scoop unsuspecting prey with clinical precision.+
