Topic : Migrant crisis and the allegations of slavery in Libya
Disclaimer : This thread is for educational purposes only. I do not justify the scenes that’s happening in Libya to migrants. I believe it’s the right of every human to be free. However this thread is dedicated to debunking the misconception surrounding this issue.
1️⃣ Before we dive into the migrants and their treatment let’s look at the background of the country which this is happening in. Libya has been unstable since the revolution that overthrew long term ruler Muammar Al-Gaddafi in 2011
As things stand there are two parties fighting for control the UN-recognised but fragile GNA gov based in the west who control about 20% of the country and the LNA based in the East who control somewhat 80% so the country is officially at civil war
Libya is a Oil-rich country and different world & regional powers are vying for influence by siding with different sides and like Iraq after its invasion in 2003 the scenes are not pretty and it’s a total chaos from a political perspective.
Libya is in a strategic location bordered by the Mediterranean Sea to the North and it’s a hub for migrants seeking asylum in Europe. As you can see the first destination they reach is Italy. If a black African country was in the same location same things would happen
In 2010 the then President of Libya Muammar Al-Gadaffi demanded over $5 billion a year from the EU to stop the African migrants by keeping them in Libya. His request was declined and a year later NATO invaded Libya and left a disastrous legacy for many years to come
Year after Year Europe is becoming less tolerant towards immigration and they don’t want to take in refugees/asylum seekers anymore and they destabilised Libya to make the conditions for migrants as worse as possible and to make it 10x harder to reach Europe
2️⃣ There are no ‘slave trade’, outlets push the narrative that Muslim & Arab countries are barbaric & racist etc. There are smugglers who benefit from the turmoil of a country like ISIS who commit crimes and in return want ransom which is totally wrong but there’s no slave trade
3️⃣ The big misconception that people have is that it’s only black people that suffer when in reality everyone no matter whether they’re Black Asian or Arab have the same fate and abuse even Libyans themselves
4️⃣ The reason you only hear/see Black Africans getting abused is because they’re the majority who are trying to seek asylum and they come from all over West Africa. However as we have established it happens to anyone Egyptians Bengalis Blacks Somalis etc. there’s no bias
To conclude we have established that
- Libya is unstable & gov control only 20% they can’t do anything to stop the migrant abuse
- European countries are at fault creating the horrible conditions
- Migrant Abuse happens to anyone regardless of ethnicity or colour
There are racist Libyans like with every ethnicity but to blame the scenes that’s happening in Libya because of racism is just absurd and you’re deluded if you think it’s coz of racism. It’s a combination of

🔘Political instability
🔘EU policies which they admitted to
🔘 War
