Traffic is massively dependant on the intent of the user.

In the SEO world, we do keyword research based on intent, but I don't see this translated into other marketing sectors very much.

I like to call this "Traffic Source Optimization" 👇
Most brands, companies and even individual marketers do not do this... And they don't audit for it either.

In the SEO world, you can have a keyword with much higher search volume (The number of people searching per month for that keyword) than another but is "worth" a lot less.
Take the keyword "Fortnite" for example - The keyword alone could mean many things...
- People looking to download the game
- People looking for content around the game
- People wondering what it is (For those that have heard about it)

And so on...
Now, if you're a content creator looking to sell your Fornite Coaching services then ranking #1 for "Fortnite" would be AMAZING...

BUT, over 90% of the people searching for that keyword are not looking for you.
If, however, you ranked #1 for "Fortnite Coaching" then you know the intention behind every user is to get the end service (or product) you're offering.

This sort of intent-based optimization is why search engines are still the most valuable source of traffic for all websites.
Let's take a look from a non-SEO, digital marketing based perspective though.

This is where "Traffic Source Optimization" is formed.

Essentially, you want to make sure that every source of traffic is going to the most optimal end result.
This means if I have a landing page about SEO, and a landing page about Twitter...

I am making sure all of my blog posts about SEO are targeted to the SEO page and NOT targeted to the Twitter one.
Here's a real example.

I have a YouTube Channel with 100+ SEO videos on it. They're about varying different topics within SEO, and over the years I've used the descriptions to send them to various different landing pages.

Many of those landers are either dead or inactive now.
Those videos still get views, and the descriptions still get read, and those links still get clicked.

The idea behind "Traffic Source Optimization" is that every X amount of time (I do it every 6 months) you audit every one of your companies traffic sources or marketing avenues.
Check out CTAs, read blog posts, watch videos, click links...

Make sure that you have that traffic source going to the optimal end resource.

And that's it!

It's stupidly simple, yet not many people do it and there is a LOT of money & clicks left on the table.
To extend upon this further.

This is also why you at least want to have the ability to have customized sidebars, unique landing pages, customized affiliate links and so on.
