This beautiful woman is my mom. She passed from colon cancer in 2001 at just 49 years old. Three years ago, I had my first colonoscopy (a little late) and at that time I had 3 polyps; a hyperplastic polyp, a tubular adenoma, and a tubulovillous adenoma. 1/3
Thankfully the tubulovillous adenoma did not show high-grade dysplasia. Today I had my second colonoscopy. There were no polyps! The relief I felt in that moment knows no bounds. 2/3
I’ve said it before and I will say it again. In death, my mother saved my life. I would never have gotten screened early had it not been for her battle. If you have family history, please get screened. If you’re 50+, please get screened. The life you save may be your own 3/3
Adding for accuracy- Black people should begin their screening at 45. As per the ACS, all folks should begin their screening at 45 now. Don’t wait my friends. Take care of yourselves! #ScreeningSavesLives
