Dear @cabinetofficeuk, stop lying! The UK was one of the most influential EU members, with a special regime on key-policy areas. At the last EU treaties' major revision (in 2007), the UK (Blair) secured additional opt-ins/outs (more than any other MS bc, isn't it?,UK was special! https://twitter.com/cabinetofficeuk/status/1293822776051146752
... Here is the Impact Assessment conducted by the House of Lords (that part of the HoL that actually does some meaningful work and does not just enjoy privileges). https://publications.parliament.uk/pa/ld200708/ldselect/ldeucom/62/62.pdf ...
... The document is quite extensive and not easy to read (btw, I did read it in full when it was published, in March 2008, before the UK ratified the Treaty of Lisbon in July 2008). So, to spare you from the hassle of reading 300+ pages, go directly to page 247 (Conclusions). ...
... in addition to understanding how strong UK's position was in the EU, you might even get (a bit too late now) some useful hints about how the EU works, how the rules are made, about the limits and links between the EU and national laws and institutions etc.. ...
... as if all the above (Blair's 2007 concessions) was not enough, Mr. @david_cameron has subsequently secured additional concessions from the EU and got written guarantees that the agreed concessions were to be included in the EU treaties at the next revision. ....
... Yeap, more concessions and special treatment for the UK even before the rest of the suckers (read EU Member States) even had the chance to sit at the negotiation table. Now, you scream with joy that, finally, as of 1 January 2021, you'll be able to adopt rules fitted for UK!
... 2 comments on the above:
1) what the f... has stopped you from adopting such great rules while being in the EU? (not the EU membership, as the HoL Report indicates) and ...
2) UK is the worst performing economy in the list of the EU countries (nope, it was not COVID's fault. Italy and Spain were also badly hit). So, we kind of saw how good you were at adopting proper rules enhancing the economy AND benefiting the UK people. ...
... Now, I'm just curious what substantiates your claim that from 1 Jan. 2021 your will use the "new" freedom to adopt rules that will make milk and honey pouring in? ...
.. Post-scriptum: Reading boring stuff, like the Law, including international treaties you happened to sign (and ratify), didn't kill anyone. You should try it from time to time! Anyway, before you do that, please, for the love of God or whomever you believe in, JUST STOP LYING!
