Terrible managers

People don't leave organisations, they leave people.

Also, being skilled in a function doesn't translate to being a great manager. The same way brilliant students don't always make great teachers.

The ability to being out the best in someone is a gift.
Excessive red tape

Banks fucking love this. If you want to order a new keyboard, you go through 8 levels of approvals & wait for sign off from Santa ++ 3 elves. It's ludicrous.

It also means you can't make any meaningful decisions quickly. Painful, misguided & archaic.
Limited upward mobility

Nothing is worse than bring stuck in the SAME role because the guy who's senior to you won't die. This happens often in smaller divisions/ firms.

It cripples morale & stifles personal development knowing you're a career professional middle manager.
Not being recognised

Everyone is replaceable in a corporate. If you die, they will send someone over to collect your work laptop & ask your wife where you saved the PowerPoint.

It's precisely why a little appreciation for great work goes a LONG way.
Being micromanaged

"Why did you take 35min for lunch instead of 30min?"

Grown adults being treated like fucking infants is the worst part of a corporate career. Some people progress into roles of power as a power trip & not because they're any good. Mediocrity is rife.
Taking on too much & not getting paid for it

Everyone has done this at some point. You end up carrying the team like Messi, except you're getting paid the same as a second division substitute.

If you make it a habit, firms will never hire someone because they see you can do it.
Toxic workplace politics

There's always backstabbing, gossiping & just general bullshit propagated mostly my people who are fucking useless at their jobs

Unfortunately, just being great at what you do isn't always enough. So you smile & ask Karen how she is, when you don't care
Being disconnected to the outcome

If you're spending 12 hours a day on a production line repeatedly making the same microchip & not seeing iPhone - it can get pretty depressing

Purpose is what distinguishes a job from a career and a career from a calling.
