In the midst of a movement that condemns police brutality, I believe it is natural to be wary of our VP candidate’s criminal justice record. I think it comes from a place of empathy. “What message does this send to protestors? Does this contradict what we’ve been fighting for?”
For many, the sole objective of this election is “Defeat Trump.” So I understand why it could be frustrating to see people pointing out problems with Biden or Harris right now. “Why make it easier for Trump?” I get it. After all, it’s a fight between two candidates.
At the same time, I think it’s healthy and important to be honest about the pros and cons of nominees. Especially when our daily dialogue is about race/police/economics etc. Otherwise, it can feel like we’re abandoning our values so damn quickly!
Twitter’s not great for nuance and there are extremists, but when you see people on the left complaining about “top cop” Harris, consider the surround context. It makes sense to me, anyway.
Trump’s America includes bleach injections, maskless grocery store meltdowns, and a great greater fear of WAP than COVID. I don’t believe there’s a single Biden supporter who’s going to switch sides based on reasonable concern over Harris’s history.
But if anyone’s curious, I am 100% voting against Trump (aka for Biden). I am hopeful that Harris will continue to evolve her stances on the police and will make bold and progressive choices.
I am sure much of this will come up in her debate against Pence, and I really look forward to that. Anyway, why are you listening to the political insight of someone wearing a Wayne’s World hat in her avi? I took that photo in a bathroom for crying out loud!
