I literally can't believe it because, you know, you'd thought editors would at least check if the person was real. And if it's just a pen name, he'd at least told them and they would print it upfront.
Also, can we expect these media to withdraw or at the very least inform their readers that the guy is a fake?
It would be a huge blow to their own credibility no doubt. But if they leave at it is, I'd discount everything I read on them re HK protests henceforth.

I sort of understand why media got screwed by “A gay girl in Damascus” because it’s in Syria and they didn’t have enough access to information and were willing to take whatever available out there.

I have a lot of respect for @HongKongFP because they are one of the few media which reported the the sexual misconduct story of then FCCC president Jon Kaiman.
