WORKING WITH MLS VETS a thread...
I’ve found myself in a similarpattern. Soccer vet engages in the weight room program. Experiences success on the field. Continues with said program. Once their movement is proficient, what am I coaching year 3?
Exercise progression and variety is key. Change the equipment, change the tempo, change the focus, create a challenge. All with the mindset to IMPROVE ON FIELD PERFORMANCE.
NO this does not mean we change movements every week or never get really good at one thing.
We squat/deadlift/push/pull at different depths, velocities, volumes and implements. ALL DEPENDING ON THE TIME OF SEASON 🗣
Failures:
- sticking with a program for way too long
- adding room much variety with “core” work
- ignoring gun show (only a 2 week hiatus but still 🤦🏻
How to find the right amount of variety?
- constant debrief with athletes.
Do they feel its transferring regardless of data? How do they feel?
- do the coaches see a positive performance outcome on the field?
- can I measure progress?/success?
No one program solves it all. Enjoy the process ⚡️
