Oh god.

Look, I was being open minded, and I still wish them well, but - the girl in the feont is supposed to be LADY SIBYL, apparently. And that, God help us, tells me everything I need to know about this, even without taking in the rest of the characters. If they haven’t got https://twitter.com/empiremagazine/status/1292513610279710721
the balls to do right by Sibyl, then they don’t trust or understand the material.

Sibyl is fat, middle aged, kind, and profoundly uncool. She is not a fierce, sexy badass clutching a selection of weaponry. Lady Sibyl IS, absolutely, a strong female character- but in the true
sense of being a thoroughly realised human being with strengths, weaknesses & agency. Her strengths are her kindness & her decency - but Sibyl is fat, & getting on in years, & not beautiful; she is the kind of girl who would have been bullied relentlessly at school.
Pratchett was a profoundly compassionate writer - an ANGRY one, fuelled by rage at the cruelties of the world and man’s inhumanity to man, but also by love. And cool is the antithesis of what his books are about. He’s CONSTANTLY showing people at their most vulnerable & messy, &
Finding the grace and humanity and heroism in ordinary, embarrassing, mockable, imperfect people, not in hot-ass perfect-toothed gym bunnies.

What a SHAME. It’s going to be like the DC cinematic universe, which is hamstrung by its decision makers being embarrassed by Superman.
All that Man of Steel shite is just nervous men in suits agreeing with each other that the outfit is embarrassing & the ideals are cheesy & reslly shouldn’t he be more like Batman?

Whereas the MCU went all-in on Cap, & they NAILED it. He isn’t edgy. He’s profoundly decent.
And Pratchett’s work deserves to be handled by people who are not embarrassed to cast a dumpy, awkward, middle aged woman as Sibyl; who would cast a properly fat teenager as Agnes, and a gawky, unsexy bag of knees and elbows as Magrat.
