I was looking through some of my photos recently and realized we’re coming up on 5 years since I kept cuttlefish.
August 20th, 2015, I ordered some Sepia bandensis eggs. They hatched in the bag en route and were roughly the size of tic tacs
I fed them live mysid shrimp every day and they grew quickly over the next few months. It was really expensive.
Eventually they started taking some bigger prey like glass shrimp
I even got them to take food from my hand
Cuttles can change color and texture
Around 5 months old and I had them eating thawed krill from a stick
Mating
The 4 I had mated several times, and laid eggs but none seemed to be viable. At just under a year old, they reached the end of their natural life span.
Keeping cuttlefish was incredible. Cephs may be short lived, but they pack a ton into their little lives. It was an amazing privilege.
