it says something about our times when the subculture filling the role of what would previously be considered an "alternative" lifestyle, and is in many ways branded as such, is so clearly being propped up by every major institution of power.
counterculture has become the mainstream. in the near fetishistic obsession our culture has developed around rejecting hegemony and authority we have created a moral and rational vacuum that has allowed authority to be subsumed by agents of pure chaos.
questioning the status quo is good, but what happens when our perception of status quo no longer matches the reality? what happens when the status quo becomes chaos, and the rebellion lies now in re-establishing limits, standards, and order?
what happens is that the holders of the new status quo, based in subversion & deconstruction, exert their power over the new dissenters - those who value limits, standards, and order. the dissenters must navigate this territory without reliance on support for "fighting the power"
