for over a decade the US terrorized vietnam, laos and cambodia, dropping more bombs than during the entirety of world war 2, and using toxins still killing people today, yet they lost. this is what it looks like when you bring a superpower down to its knees and make them grovel:
you had over half a million troops there, used your endless wealth to bribe, corrupt, buy native informers, sent your CIA to infiltrate every inch of those lands, massacred men, women, children and babies en masse to intimidate and terrorize. yet they humiliated and destroyed you
here's general giap, nicknamed "red napoleon" and regarded as one of the most brilliant military strategists in history, talking about how the vietnamese were able to destroy a materially vastly superior american imperialist force: it was through the sheer power of their morale
the heroic vietnamese communist resistance forces engaged in one of the most amazing engineering feats in history in defeating the american empire, for example by creating a vast network of tunnels that included storage facilities and even hospitals
and the creation of the ho chi minh trail, which even the NSA was forced to admit was "one of the great achievements of military engineering of the 20th century". a network of roads and trails, it ensured consistent supplies from the north to the south despite continual bombing
one of the pivotal moments of the resistance against US imperialist forces, demonstrating their superior morale, technique and engineering skills, came with the tet offensive, which general giap helped lead. it broke the US empire's back as symbolically represented by its embassy
the immensity of the sacrifices given by the vietnamese in not only resisting the most brutal terror inflicted on them by the most powerful empire the world has ever seen, but also defeating and humiliating it, is impossible to fully comprehend. I love them with all my being
