Finding a front trio ⚽️ (Thread)

They score goals, they grab bonus points and they are absolutely vital for your #FPL team.

In this thread I’ll walk you through some stats regarding forward. ⤵️
Premium picks, mid-priced options or cheap enablers?

There are so many different ways you could set up your attacking trio. Should you bring in the big-hitters or try to find nice mid-priced options to free up fundings for a strong midfield?
Well, since I always ask myself that question before every season begins I though we could take a look at how the 🔝🔟 FPL-managers in the world of last season chose to set up their front line for Gameweek 1:
– The price range for the front three did vary quite a lot. The most expensive forward set-up in those ten teams cost 24.5m (11.0 - 9.0 - 4.5), while the cheapest cost 18.5m (7.5 - 6.5 - 4.5)

– The average cost for the forwards in the top 10 teams was 21.4m in GW1
– 5 out of the 10 managers brought in a really expensive forward (Kane, Aubameyang, Agüero)

– Two managers had a 9.5m forward as their most expensive goalscorer

– While three managers went for cheaper attack with either a 7.5 or 6.5 as their most expensive choice up front
– The most picked players at the start of the season were Bournemouths Joshua King (6.5) and Manchester Uniteds Mason Greenwood (4.5).

– Both those players were featured in seven of the top 10 teams at GW1.

But as the season moved on the attacking set up changed a lot... 👇
– In Gameweek 10 the average price for the attacking line-up had gone from 21.4 to 25.4m in the teams that later ended up as top 10 in the world.

– At GW10 the most expensive attack in those teams cost 29.1m and the cheapest cost 22.3m
– At GW10 there were 6 of the top 10 managers who had either Kane, Aubameyang or Agüero in their team

– But only two teams had a 4.5 forward at that time, in both cases it was Brightons Aaron Connolly
In a different thread I made on the defensive set-up, the average cost for the back-line went down between GW1-10, so the fundings were most likely moved from defenders to forwards

So looking through those stats, let’s look at which forward actually were the best last season ⚽️
Top 10 best forwards in the 19/20 season:

1. Vardy, 210 p (9.0)
2. Aubameyang, 205 p (11.0)
3. Ings, 198 p (6.0)
4. Jiménez, 194 p (7.5)
5. Rashford, 177 p (8.5)

6. Kane, 158 p (11.0)
7. Firminio 155 p (9.5)
8. Abraham 153 p (7.0)
9. Jesus, 146 p (9.5)
10. Pukki, 139 p (6.5)
Worth thinking about? 🤔

Starting GW1 with a cheaper attack could make it harder when you need to bring in that in-form premium forward

If you start with an attack like this: 7.5 - 6.5 - 6.5
You will likely need more than one transfer if you want a player like Vardy or Kane
And it's never a good feeling needing to take a -4 hit or having to re-think your transfers to make that happen.

But if you have a forward that costs more, it will be easy to swap to other premium options that are playing better.
I’m not saying either of the strategies are right or wrong. You could pick out three mid-priced options that all go and bang in goals straight away and you won't have a problem 😅

Jokes aside I hope you guys understand what I'm trying to say. There's nothing wrong going cheap!
So with all this said, that ends this thread on forwards!

Hope you enjoyed all the stats and hopefully you can find it useful when the 2020/21 season kicks off 🤠
