composite characters... are not lazy writing... they are necessary... for a coherent narrative...
another meaningless criticism I see all the time that drives me crazy (not at me per se but in general) is "the plot is paper thin" - like what does that even mean?? the plot is simple? plot points don't flow logically? genuinely meaningless garbage phrase. end it.
again, it is a meaningless phrase, but it's usually a stand-in for "fairly conventional plot" which, again, not a qualitative statement. god forbid a story have an easy-to-follow beginning middle and end that is accessible for a wide audience
