Thread: For all of you who are thinking that you are looking at a crude depiction of a Viking dragon head warship from the 8th c. AD...You are not. You are looking at the earliest known, crude depiction, of an Illyrian dragon head warship from the the 8th c. BC...
This ship is one of four depicted on one of my favourite ancient artefacts. Illyrian κνημίδες (shinguards), found in a 8thc. BC, Illyrian princely grave in Glasinac, Bosnia...
I love the triskelions in the middle, I love the "dragon ships" and I love the many "cross in circle" phalerae (engraved or embossed metal discs) affixed as decoration on the armour...
But what I love the most is the name of the place where this artefact was found: Glasinac. Glasinac is a huge green highland ideal for sheep raising. And we know that the area was used just for that since early 2nd millennium BC... https://bs.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glasinac
The area is dotted with Bronze and Iron Age strongholds and graveyards, including the Illyrian one with the grave where the above shinguards were found https://hr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glasinačka_kultura

Why do I love the name Glasinac so much? Because it has no meaning in local languages...But, in Gaelic (Irish), Glaisín, is a diminutive of Glas which means "green"... https://www.teanglann.ie/en/fgb/glas-
The name describes the place exactly...But how the hell could a highland in Bosnia have a Gaelic name??? Well remember the Irish legends about the itinerary of the bronze age R1b people who settled Ireland in the mid 3rd millennium BC?
Glasinac culture is also known as Glasinac-Mati culture. Glasinac is in Bosnia, Mati is in Albania. Montenegro, where we find the gold discs which predate the "uniquely Irish Bronze Age gold discs" is in between Glasinac and Mati...

So did these Bronze Age R1b guys from Yamna speak some version of Proto-Gaelic? I believe so...

Were they able to sail to Ireland the way the old Irish legends claim they did? Yes they could https://oldeuropeanculture.blogspot.com/2020/07/neolithic-seafarers.html
