Earlier I tweeted that I wished AEW never happened. I think this needs to be explained properly.
I think AEW has been excellent for giving some indie wrestlers that spotlight they have worked hard for and I think that AEW has done some very good things. Whilst the wrestling style is not for me, and I find their content way too spot-heavy, I understand that others enjoy this.
But anyone who has followed me on this account knows that I started off being mega hyped for DON, and then slowly fell off by the time All Out rolled around. I was seeing AEW as more of a Cody vanity project than anything else, and this really put me off.
I’ll admit, AEW Dynamite started off hot and I think those first few months were strong - but as AEW grew, my love for wrestling withered and I began to really lose that heart I had for wrestling.
The fans, the dirtsheets, the constant WWE digs - I was seeing another side of wrestling, an ugly side. Toxic fans coming out of the woodwork, dirtsheets bending over backwards to defend AEW and tear down WWE... I was exhausted.
Previously, I was a part of the robot combat community and I left due to toxicity - but that vitriol does not even come close to what we have witnessed in the ‘IWC’ since AEW came around. I left the AEW community early on because I felt scared to voice my opinion.
In WWE 2010, women were hardly featured on programming and were treated as ‘the piss break’. The women’s revolution gave birth to a whole new era of Western mainstream wrestling and only a few years later, women MAIN EVENTED WrestleMania. Just look at AEW in comparison.
I don’t give a shit about key demos. I don’t give a shit about how AEW ‘listens to the fans’. What bothers me is that they are a company built on false promises and attacking actual constructive criticism.
This is a company which quotes tweets which contain actual constructive criticism and a want for women and/or POC to be in more prominent spots. In return, they act like victims and send their pack of rabid toxic fans on to these people and let them pull them apart. It’s a joke.
I am sick and tired of this bullshit company. AEW has ruined wrestling for me. Their show is absolutely fine, not my thing - but the people running it, those with a voice and the way they choose to approach constructive criticism. It’s fucking sickening and it’s so overlooked.
AEW is a perfect example of why wrestlers cannot run their own mainstream company. The diehard fans may think they’re cool, but all they do is promote cyber bullying and having a giant victim complex. If you don’t love everything they do, you can go fuck yourself basically.
I hate AEW for what goes on outside the show. I hate how the dirtsheets act like AEW is perfect and have an excuse for everything. I hate how AEW is painted like this little indie promotion when they’re owned by the fucking Khans. I hate how shit their hardcore fanbase is.
I hate how they never acknowledge the toxicity of their fanbase. I hate how they charge women $50 for a fucking safe space. I hate how Brandi will never learn because dirtsheets act like she’s the victim. I hate how AEW has absolutely ruined wrestling for me.
