If your idea of using your privilege is to keep your kids out so there's more space & safety for kids who must attend, you MUST understand that their classes will be the same size no matter what you choose.

Same # of kids in a class, but fewer teachers in that school next year. https://twitter.com/maritstiles/status/1292102799883489281
Many of us can only focus on the immediate crisis.

It's totally understandable; this alone feels like too much.

Some of us continue to worry about both today AND tomorrow, though.

Our short-term plans may have a catastrophic impact on the future of public schooling.
Let me be clear: I'm not writing this to blame individual parents for making decisions that make most sense for their families.

I'm writing this so you know what government is counting on: they want us to be in conflict to keep us fighting each other, instead of fighting them.
The government of Ontario *wants* you to be complicit in their plan to dismantle the province's public education system.

If you have privilege, please consider using it to fight for those whose voices continue to be ignored.
Please note: no one is being silent here. But we KNOW (yes, we do) that some voices continue to be prioritized over others. If your voice tends to be one that's acknowledged, USE IT AS LOUDLY AS POSSIBLE NOW.
Poor parents, Black parents, Indigenous parents, parents of disabled kids -- are tired. So tired of fighting for all of us.

If you've only JUST started fighting, because this is the first time you've had to?

It's your time to shout for everyone, not just you and yours.
