I’m a teacher. Over 10 years—mostly grade 6 and elementary Phys. Ed. People are scared. I get that. My friends and colleagues are asking if I am. And I am but not for the reasons they may think. 1/12 @AdrianaLaGrange @AlbertaEd @ATALocal55 @albertateachers @alberta_moms
Covid scares me but so does cancer, car accidents, early on-set Alzheimer’s — and I can’t do anything about those things. Preventative things sure. But people get sick. People die. And schools have always been a dangerous place in terms of getting sick. 2/12
When my asthma was very severe my doctor had my seriously consider taking time off work because just being at school heightened my chances of getting and being hospitalized because of my poor respiratory system. 3/12
Schools have always been a hot bed for germs. This isn’t new. It’s also not a secret. 🦠 4/12
What scares me now. Right now. Is the @YourAlberta not listening. This is a representative government. You, as #MLAs are elected to represent the people. ALL of the people. And I don’t feel like that is happening. And that. Scares the absolute shit out of me. 5/12

People ask: How do we help the kids? And teachers tell them. But nothing happens. Teachers reach out for help, money, support—and don’t get it. This. Is. Not. New. 7/12
So my fear, right now, is a fear I’ve had for a long time. The fear that education is not valued. Students are not valued. And, most of all, teachers are not valued. 8/12
Decisions are being made by the Minister of Education that are not in the best interest of STUDENTS or TEACHERS. So then, who is she representing? Whose voice is she listening to? If not teachers, then who?! 9/12
Teachers won’t say the curriculum is biased. Teachers won’t say that the focus hasn’t been on literacy. So who is saying this and WHY is she listening to them. 10/12
The curriculum review is not important right now but how it is being handled is. It shows that the focus is NOT on what is best for children. It shows that teachers are not being consulted. 11/12
The curriculum review shows that there is some other agenda and we aren’t being shown it. It shows that priorities are waaaaay off.

Ulterior motives are scary. Especially when It comes to the lives and livelihoods of our children. 12/12
