hi everyone, if you haven’t noticed my account has been deactivated for the past few days. this was because i made a tweet around bi people’s use of the d/f slur. (i will be adding links at the end for jumping points for educations)
i am a bisexual woman and have had those words used against me. in the moment i tweeted about it because i didn’t fully understand the discussion around it. that was wrong of me
i took people telling bisexuals not to say those words, as them telling me those words haven’t affected me or the bisexual community. that was wrong of me and it was ignorant of me to tweet about something i didn’t fully understand
i feel terrible, that tweet invalidated and hurt the experiences of people from my own community, especially those who identify as lesbian and gay. i am deeply sorry for tweeting that, it was wrong of me and i’m so sorry to anyone that was hurt or invalidated by my words.
over the past few days i have reflected upon what i’ve said and have educated myself on the issue. i now understand why what i tweeted was hurtful. although i never felt comfortable using the d/f slur, i now know why people from the bisexual community shouldn’t say it.
i don’t expect anyone to accept my apology and i completely understand if you decide to unfollow me or block me all together. i don’t want this account to stand as place of lesbophobia or homophobia.
i hope you can understand and trust that i have been educating myself and that i will continue to educate myself. i hope that people will continue to keep me accountable.
i would also like to add some resources so that others are able to fully educate themselves on this topic and don’t make the same mistake as i did. if you have any further questions feel free to dm me. also if you have any resources you can add those as well.
here is a great thread summarizing the issue and it links to some great resources for beginning to educate yourself https://twitter.com/seungsapphic/status/1291802029581508613?s=21
