Great news from the Jamaica project! The 2020 hatching has begun!
The endemic Jamaican #Iguana (Cyclura collei) was thought to be extinct in the 1940s, a small population was rediscovered in the 1990s and led to an intensive long term recovery project.

Currently the Critically Endangered species is only found in a very small area within the Hellshire Hills in Jamaica.
Every year new Jamaican Iguana hatchlings are brought into the Headstart Facility @HopeZooKingston
where they are kept safe from non native predators, once they reach a larger size in a few years time they will be released into the wild.
Congrats to all the team! @hopezookingston @udcjamaica @nepajm @ccam_foundation #SaveIguanas #iguana #herpetology #jamaica
