Good morning and happy Sunday!

A few weeks ago I had the idea of biking to every music venue in this city, and after some planning and reminiscing, today’s the day.

By my count I’ve got 48 stops to make, so I think I should get going.
First up, @Sl33pingVillag3 in Avondale.

One of the newer venues to the city, home to all things indie. I’ve only seen a couple here so far, two great shows from @DIIV and @MildHighClub. – bei Sleeping Village
Gonna be riding down Milwaukee for a bit here. Next up Congress Theater.

Never seen a show here. When I started seeing shows in 2013, this place had substantial legal troubles and was shut down. All EDM is banned here forever as a result. – bei Congress Theater
Given its size and location, I bet our friends at Umphrey’s HQ have been intently watching, maybe hoping to get a new Chicago home base.

Sadly, since it was purchased in ‘15 there been very little visible progress made on the alleged $96m renovation project.
Just half a block down is stop 3: @ConcordHall.

Seen some good ones here including my first Umphrey’s anything: a TAUKing McGee aftershow for North Coast 2016.

Some others: @ISO50, Nicolas Jaar, CATS, Fearless Flyers, Mac Demarco, Lettuce, Mummies, @STS9. – bei Concord Music Hall
Stop 4, @ChopShopChi.

Another newer venue but seen some outstanding shows here already including @GhostLightBand @KyleOnKeys @Phishcovercover @GibblesArmy @garajmahal. Missed @AqueousBand w/ Andy. So it goes.

Love this place. – bei Chop Shop
Basically next door, stop 5 @subtchicago.

It’s been a minute, but this was a productive spot for me for a while. The fantastic Radiohead tribute Kid A played here a ton when they were active. Also seen @HanniElKhatib @BlackPistolFire & @tedleo.
Across the street we have stop 6, our fallen brother Double Door.

Sadly this historic place closed in ‘17 after a spat between the owner and the dickhole landlord. There were plans to reopen in Logan, then in Uptown, but the current status is unknown. It’s a shame.
Moving along, venue 7 @hideoutchicago.

Home to folk, blues, comedy, and indie artists alike, this tiny neighborhood spot may be the only lasting part of a neighborhood soon to be taken over by Lincoln Yards. I have only seen my friend Davy Knowles play here. #SaveOurStages – bei The Hideout
Moving south, we have venue 8, @BourbonChicago.

Another new spot, seen @TheMagicBeans here a couple of times, and my pals in @thbigleagueboys but that’s it so far.

It gets hot in there. Plenty of beer to help with that though.
Up next, one of my favorite spots and venue 9, @theemptybottle.

This Ukrainian Village mainstay has afforded me the chance to see Kurt Vile & Courtney Barnett, @EITS @tblsh @Bully @holyfuck.

This place can never go away. We must defend it. – bei Empty Bottle
Number 10 already, United Center.

It is an arena that hosts big bands and the best hockey team in the world. That’s about all I have to say about it.

I’ve seen @radiohead @KingsOfLeon @theblackkeys @GaryClarkJr @TheWho @tompetty @Tool @RollingStones @SmashingPumpkin – bei United Center
Just a few blocks away, the start of another cluster and stop 11, @CobraLounge.

I’ve never seen a show here. I had a ticket for a Riotfest aftershow with @theholdsteady but after a long rainy day there I just wanted to go home. What I would give for the opportunity now...
Number 12, the former home of @northcoastfest and the perpetual home of @pitchforkfest, Union Park.

Between the two fests: Primus, JRAD, Ween, STS9, LCD Soundsystem,Twin Peaks, A Tribe Called Quest, Fleet Foxes, The War On Drugs, Brian Wilson just to name a few. – bei Union Park
A block over, one of my favorites and stop 13, @thebottomlounge.

Tucked away under the CTA green line, this place has hosted many fantastic shows. @goldlikejoel and Baylor, @SpaffordMusic @Dopapod @GibblesArmy @NewMastersounds @WAVVES @postanimalmusic – bei Bottom Lounge
One block over, stop 14 is House of Vans.

Sometime in maybe 2017 or 2018 I was in line to see The National for free here and missed the cut off by less than 100 people. – bei House of Vans
Across the street we have 15 @CityWineryCHI.

Only seen one show here, but it was a rowdy af @Ghostlightmusic show. – bei City Winery
Moving south, venue 16 is UIC Pavillion.

Host to a reknown Phish weekend run that is immortalized on their Chicago ‘94 release, I saw Fall Out Boy, All American Rejects, Hawthorne Heights, and From First To Last (Skrillex’s band) here in 2005.

That was my second concert ever. – bei UIC Pavilion

Alright back at it. Number 22 is a big one, @BuddyGuys.

I’ve yet to see a show here. Every January Buddy does a residency and every year it comes and goes and I say “ah next year I really need to see Buddy” and I still haven’t done it. Shame on me. – bei Buddy Guy's Legends
Number 23, the Auditorium Theatre.

Only seen one show here, and it was a doozy of a @SCI_Official show thanks to my generous pal @Max_Wolly. This might be the most beautiful room in the city. – bei Auditorium Theatre
Number 24, home of @lollapalooza Grant Park.

I’ll never forget being front row at QOTSA and NIN in 2013. I’ll never forget finally seeing Radiohead and LCD Soundsystem for the first time in 2016. It’s not my cup of tea anymore, but Lolla was formative for me. – bei Petrillo Music Shell
Just a bit up the road, venue 25 Jay Pritzker Pavillion.

I’m yet to see a show here, but @GlassiAlonso and @robinhreed have sung its praises for free Monday night concerts.

It was closed kind of so I didn’t get a pic. Google it.
Number 26, the historic @ChicagoTheatre.

I had tickets for Primus last month, but we all know how that went.

Besides that, @campgreensky @spoontheband @SCI_Official. – bei The Chicago Theatre
Number 27, Cadillac Palace Theatre.

Only seen one show here, and that was a most memorable Chris Cornell solo acoustic show. What a wonderful human he was. Telling stories, taking requests, telling jokes, the voice of an angel. Gone too soon. – bei Cadillac Palace Theatre
Number 28, House of Blues.

It is what it is. You’ve been to one, you’ve been to them all. Seen a few Tribe shows, White Denim, Broken Bells, Frank Turner, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.
Out of downtown and heading north along the lakeshore path we have The Lakefront Green, venue #29.

Only one show here for me and for most of us, @umphreysmcgee. It was a beautiful night with friends and music and beverages, with the most scenic backdrop of the Chicago skyline. – bei The Rocks at Fullerton Beach
Gonna break here for a bit before heading into Lincoln Park. Definitely starting to get tired. Still 15 or so left.
Nice little grouping coming up in Lincoln Park. Lots of hazy memories.
Venue #30, Park West.

Home to the annual Brendan & Jake Holiday Show, a very peculiar Third Eye Blind show, the it’s not us release party, Omega Moos, and many more. – bei Park West
#31, everyone’s favorite after party spot if they could only remember in the morning, The Store.

Many a drunken night have gone way into the wee hours of the morning here. Bayliss may have sang karaoke. @lunarticksmusic may have played. Full Phish jams played on the touch tunes – bei The Store
#32, Lincoln Hall.

Seen quite a few shows here. Marco, Aqueous, Bright Light Social Hour, Car Seat Headrest, King Gizz before they blew up, Tauk, Mungion, John Maus. That was quite the memorable show. – bei Lincoln Hall
Just around the corner we have #33, a favorite of ours, @tonicroom.

Open jam nights, up and coming jam acts, a @goldlikejoel solo show, @MarcusRezak, and so many more. – bei Tonic Room
Half a block down we have #34, @KingstonMines.

Ashamed to say I’ve never spent a night watching music here. When this is all over I will make it a priority.

Two of my friends did meet here though and now they’re engaged to be married which is great. Music brings us together. – bei Kingston Mines
