Though I'm not sure this article shows anything that wasn't already apparent for many years. It comes down to power. Wanting to rule and having a very specific white country. It would be contradictory if the morality stood a chance against that ideology.
And it's not even about Trump. But those moral convictions wouldn't allow a contentment as racial violence continues. As immigrants are brutalized. As Muslims in America are terrorized. Or as America goes around the world destroying countries and stealing their resources.
I wish the reporter asked exactly what the moral convictions are, because it's not a contradiction that people who believe that their God-given right to rule is being threatened are supporting a strongman who promises them that world again. That goes beyond Christianity.
But I would have liked for them to spell out the morality involved in knowing the fear and pain of your Hispanic neighbors is caused by Trump and the solution is to only speak of your support for Trump when the Hispanic people leave.
But I don't see it as a corruption in the same way that monarchs and the whole Manifest Destiny belief stands on the power to rule being granted by God. And a certain idea of Christianity falls under that. But that's what it's always been, how could it not with this history?
