Indian Muslims are not a monolith. Their grievances and aspirations change with region, groups and communities. Sometimes even within a state. A Muslim from Mangalore will have very little in common with his peer in Belgaum. That is how diverse the community is.
Same is the case for political leanings. My support for INC in Kerala is not identity centric as they are accommodative of the aspirations of the community. So are the Marxists now withstanding other differences. So I have the privilege to exercise my vote based on other issues.
It won't be the same in other states. There are enough states where choosing between INC and BJP is like choice between the devil and deep sea. INC has not been able to provide security to minorities in many states.There is nothing wrong in acknowledging your mistakes
In states like UP, Bihar, TN e.t.c where there are other secular alternatives, INC is hardly an option for the community. So let us not claim the sole custodian ship for the community. They are not your slaves. And no here can claim to be a voice for this diverse community either
However I will be indebted to Dr Manmohan Singh and INC for tabling the Sachar Report in the Parliament and acknowledging the dismal conditions of the Indian Muslims. Whoever implements the Sachar and Rangnath Committee recommendations are your allies. Nothing more nothing less.
And whichever leader has the balls to start a mass movement to reclaim the WAKF institutions upsured by the leaders, parties and bureaucrats claiming to represent the community is your leader. The WAKF alone can take care of the socio economic needs of the community
