I have finished University. What would I do differently?

Even though I have finished my Computer Science degree with First Class Honours, there are things I would do differently if I would have to pursue my degree again.

A thread. 🧵
1) Take my 1st year seriously

One of the things I would've done differently is taking the 1st year of Uni seriously.

I consider the 1st year essential as you're building the foundation for the years to come.

Therefore, I would study more in my 1st year, If I'd have to re-do it
2) Network

Thankfully, it only took me the 1st year to realise the importance of socialising/networking.

There are countless benefits of socialising: healthy for your mental health, Uni life becomes more enjoyable, group work, you might be recommended for a job, and many more.
3) Study smart

It took me almost the whole 3 years to realise that I had a poor study plan. Even though I have studied most of the time, I did not study smart. I used to spend huge amounts of time learning all the stuff that was not necessary at the time.

Study smart, not hard.
4) Do not rely on University

Uni alone doesn't prepare you for work. You have to work extra outside University.

5) Relaxation/sports

Guess what my graduation gift was? A burnout with First Class Honours. I became so obsessed with doing well at the Uni that I left all my hobbies, including doing sports, and that resulted in a burnout. That was one of my biggest mistakes. Always exercise!
