If narcissism is so bad, is it wrong to love myself?
OMG, no.
Narcissism is a form of self-loathing.
Narcissists are incapable of an authentic relationship, especially themselves.
They do NOT truly love themselves.

Narcissism comes from the Greek "narco" ("numb").
Narcissists suffer from insatiable numbness.
Narcissists are numb to the world and to themselves.
They're incapable of empathy and compassion.

Ego-personality is just a thought construct of the ego.
The ego itself is ancient and powerful.
It has developed over millions of years.
It is a primal survival mechanism driven by fear.

Narcissism results from uncontrolled ego expansion.
Life becomes about a desperate and futile effort to overcome the numbness (with things, status, people, etc,.)
Nothing ever satisfies them.
Their instinctual survival gas pedal is stuck.

On the other hand, with ego-deflection arises a sense of compassion and empathy.
You become authentically yourself rather than the mere thought construct of the ego-personality.

With compassion and empathy for others, comes authentic love for yourself as well.
This is NOT narcissism at all.
An authentic relationship with yourself is your most important relationship.

Ego is always trying to inflate, however, and can turn self-compassion and self-love into self-pity to trigger ego-inflation yet again.
Stay on guard.
Just don't let your compassion become just about you or it can trigger ego-inflation.

So YES, unconditionally love yourself.
But it is critical that you allow love to flow out of yourself to others as well.
Otherwise it will stagnate within you.
Love is like a pure spring of clean water.
It is all about FLOW.
