I create an app. Millions of people jump on that app. Investors pour money into the business of which I end up owning 10% of. Business goes on to the stock market and ends up with $10B market cap. Then those same people who jumped on my app are surprised I'm worth $1B. It's crazy
I add additional features to my app which brings in more revenue. The investment company in which you put your savings into becomes happy and buys more of my stock. Stock price goes up later and you make additional cash on your investment. I'm now worth $10B. But I'm the bad guy.
Decades later during a pandemic which forced people to stay at home. There is a surge in new users on my app and translates to increase in revenue. Investors (including your pension fund managers) are happy. They gobble up my stock. Business gets valued at $300B and I $30B.
You then get angry as to why I'm worth this much but you're extremely happy that your investment in stocks (which includes mine) is making awesome returns.
There are calls for me sell majority of my stock and donate it but it's not as easy as that. That'll mean I'll lose the controlling stake in my company and be at the mercy of shareholders. Folks won't understand, then claim I'm hoarding wealth.
Go after your lawmakers. Even the countries with higher taxes who you admire have billionaires. Fix your laws. Chanting "eat the rich" won't solve your problems at all.
