“Anti-semitism is, still, seen as a “lesser” bigotry, which is why politicians and newspapers can dabble in it.” like they are not dabbling in anything else.
What scares me most is being the leading column in the Weekend mag the argument goes uncontested. https://twitter.com/HadleyFreeman/status/1292009886553968640
Only on social media can we respond. So the make everyone sound like a troll when frankly if the Guardian had employed some Black columnists we might have a diversity of opinion for readers (mostly older) who don't use social media.
It's incredible the difference in conversation you have with those who only rely on the BBC/Guardian for news compared to those who engage with them as well as social media. We see the outlandish spitefulness of some of these writers in a way you just don't with traditional media
Was actually considering subscribing to The Guardian mainly for the food and culture coverage and I forgot it's nice to read an actual newspaper but after reading that column, in it's context, first page, I don't think I will.
Oh yes and the feature on how covid-19 affects Black and Asian ppl was good however again - we are spoken about or 'interviewed' and put on the front cover. We are not there to provide personal intellectual opinion's from our own lives unless we are Gary Younge (thankful for him)
The government appointed an independent antisemitism adviser but still it's apparently not taken "seriously.' Meanwhile a race commission is led by a woman who doesn't even believe institutional racism is real and Black and Asian people just have a 'culture of grievance'.
The evidence just doesn't support Hadley's opinion.
So I have to state it here. Call me a troll or whatever but at least today there is some form of public debate instead of having to write an angry letter to the editors which no one would ever see.
