Harry Maguire is one of the best CBs in the world and people need to put respect on his name. Here is a thread on why?

Some stats can be misleading when it comes to defenders because it is also dependent on what type of team a defender plays in because a player who plays in a team who has to defend a lot put more numbers in tackles in interceptions.

But the rate of successful tackles is always high of a better defender. For eg: Mustafi won 62 tackles in 2018/19 season whereas VanDjik won 38 but VanDjik's success rate was 95% whereas Mustafi's was 68%. Better defender always has high percentage of tackles/ariel battle wins.

So the only meaningful stats for defenders is the success rate. All top defenders have higher success rate though they may have lower number of tackle wins because their team has to defend less.

Harry Maguire has won more number of tackles ( 37 ) than VanDjik(23) but that stat doesn't matter since Liverpool have to defend less than Manchester United. But Harry Maguire has 70% ground success rate whereas VanDjik has 76%.

The above stat shows that Maguire is in a good category in terms of ground success rate. But it's not only stat of CBs. Airel win rate is another important one. Maguire ranks 2nd among all the CBs of Europe in ariel success rate after Joel Matip while VanDjik ranks 4th.

Highly ratedCBs like Varane,Laporte,Koulibaly ,Joe Gomez .Soyuncu rank nowhere near VanDjik & Maguire in-terms of tackle & ariel success rate & James Tarkowski & Tutis Bramble whom people often use to show stat is irrelevent also have lower succes rate but more number of tackles

But tackles success rate & ariel win rate don't define the CBs. Mistakes are also part. Maguire has 0 errors leading to goal this season which is the highest in Europe. People may question about Bournemouth & Spurs goals. I have explained it below:

Those Bournemouth & Spurs goals are statistically considered as dribbled past by opponents or opponent's individual brilliance. For E.g : Varane who has 0 errors leading to goal in LaLiga would have had 4 errors if being dribbled past & letting opponents score was an error.

Those all were some bit advanced statistics but let's discuss simple numbers like goals conceded, clean sheets & games lost & the impacts he has made after signing for Manchester United.

ManUnited conceded 54 goals last season in the league, kept 7 clean sheets which was lower than relegated Cardiff city. ManUnited have now conceded 18 less goals or 1/3 rd less goals in the league.

ManUnited are only team with ManCty in the league to not concede 3 or more than 3 goals in more than one occasions in the league this season. ManUtd have lost 2nd least games this season. ManUtd would have had best defence in the league if DeGea hadn't made 3 errors.

ManUtd almost doubled the amount of clean sheets in the league this season (13) from last season ( 7) and DeGea lost the golden glove by only 3 clean sheets despite having almost same save % as last season. ManUnited have most clean sheets in Europe this season.
