Today is a historic day. It is the first election in a decade when nobody can predict what will happen in Belarus.

This was about 10 years ago 3 femen activists, including myself, staged an ironic protest in Minsk & mocked Lukashenko. This protest was in solidarity with the political prisoners, among whom were oppositional candidates of the 2010 presidential elections & activists... #Belarus

After this protest, we were kidnapped and interrogated by a group of men for several hours. Then they drove us in the middle of winter into a forest and tortured us, while filming everything. After hours of humiliation we were abducted in that forest ... #belarus

Here’s how Lukashenko publicly commented these events right after. « they came once, second time they won’t come» he said at a press conference. #Belarus

10 years after, Lukashenko’s regime is still the same. Cruel. Corrupt. Criminal. Yesterday’s crackdown against the opposition showed it well. One thing have changed, however. Belorussians are loosing the fear of the ruling dictator. #Belarus

They are thousands at the protest rallies now. And you can’t imprison thousands, you can’t kidnap them all and torture in forests. And... You can no longer maintain a dictatorial regime if the population is not afraid. #Belarus

Since 2010, I dreamed to see such a powerful opposition movement in Belarus. And I could not even dream that this movement will one day be led by 3 women. Thank you all for your bravery, #Belarus! Thank you for hope!
